Just Keep Fishing Gems and Loot
Pick valuables before they scatter. Recovery is not a vacuum. The turtle will not Hoover.
Just Keep Fishing looks like a fishing incremental until the ground is covered in red gems, green gems, and gold coins and you are no longer fishing. You are jogging. Dutch Steam reviewer smilies2019 (thumbs down) put that complaint in writing: the fishing was fine; selling and chasing gems was not. Even with a gem recovery upgrade, valuables still enter the selling bin and then spread out across the ice. The hoped-for fix was the turtle pet. The turtle walks. It does not Hoover.
This page is the loot guide that review is asking for. It will not invent gem prices. It will not pretend a recovery node is a vacuum. It will tell you what ice screenshots actually show, how barrel selling with E differs from the gem chase, and which systems are the real money.
For the spend order that actually prints, use how to make money fast and the upgrade tier list. For island order, use the walkthrough. For the penguin that stole a diamond during a timer, use Penguin Kicker. For the pet that will not pick this stuff up, use how to catch the turtle.
What gems and coins look like
Ice screenshots are the cleanest picture. One capture sits at $6019 on a frozen pond: gold coins, red diamond-shaped gems, and green gems lying on the ice around a catch, with penguins wandering the bank and a green turtle already hopping nearby. Another capture is Penguin Kicker, where a large blue crystal and a chest dump coins while birds try to leave with them. Later docks show gold piles and crystals as layout art around 2X water; those piles are scenery until they are also loot. This wiki will not invent a catalog of every color.
What you can treat as true from play:
- Gold coins on the ground are pickups. Walk into them.
- Red and green gems on ice are pickups. Walk into them before they slide away from the catch.
- Large crystals / diamonds show up as both biome dressing and as stealable valuables in Penguin Kicker.
- None of these have a published per-gem dollar value this page will print. Watch the HUD after you pick them. Spend the coins on the tree. Do not wait for a wiki price table.
Fish still sell at the barrel. Gems are extra loot that lives on the ground. If you stand in the water admiring a purple catch while red gems skid toward a penguin, you already lost the extra.
Barrel selling versus the gem chase
The loop that pays is still: catch fish, fill the backpack, walk to the barrel, press E. Coins hit the HUD. You buy backpack size, extra rods, magnets, 2X water, crates. That is the money page.
The gem chase is what happens around that sell. smilies2019’s report is specific: gems go into the selling bin, then they spread out. You sold. The bin accepted the valuables. Then the valuables physically left the bin and scattered across the island, so you had to chase them. A recovery upgrade was supposed to pull that mess back. It does not pull everything. You still run.
That is why a player can like the fishing and hate the session. The catch is the toy. The commute after E is the chore. If you treat every red gem as mandatory, you will spend the ice island jogging instead of recasting. If you ignore every gem, you leave coins on the snow. The useful middle:
- Sell with E as soon as the pack is full. Do not wait for a prettier gem to land first.
- The instant the bin sprays, pick the cluster at your feet. That is the cheap recovery: you are already at the barrel.
- Do not chase a single gem to an iceberg while bobbers sit idle.
- Recast. The next dump will spray again. Standing in the old spray is how you get bored fast, which is also what smilies2019 wrote.
Yellow delivery crates are a different payout. They do not replace the barrel and they do not vacuum gems. Grab a crate, then go back to capacity and lines. Rank those spends on the upgrade planner instead of rewriting the loop around glitter.
Recovery nodes are not a vacuum
Players talk about a gem recovery upgrade. Buy it if it is on the tree and you can afford it after backpack and extra rods. Then lower your expectations. smilies2019 still chased gems with that node owned. The valuables still entered the bin and still spread out. Recovery is a magnet for some of the spray. It is not an auto-collect for the island.
Magnets on the upgrade tier list already pull dropped fish, coins, and deliveries toward the fox. They are A-tier quality of life once you have S-tier capacity. They are not a license to stand still. If a gem recovery node sits next to those magnets, treat it the same way: it shortens the walk, it does not delete the walk.
Buy order does not change because gems exist:
- Backpack so you are not selling every two fish.
- Max fish per bobber and extra rods so each dump is worth the walk.
- Magnets / recovery after the ground is actually messy.
- Sell-value after the loop is fast.
Do not dump early coins into recovery because a red gem looked expensive. You do not know the price. This page will not invent one. Watch the dump number, then spend on whatever is stopping the next dump.
The turtle will not Hoover
The turtle is a later-island pet. It hops. Developers have talked about coin pickup and even skill-tree help. smilies2019 hoped that talk was live. It was not. The pet does not gather gems. It does not police the selling bin. It does not stop a penguin from stealing a diamond in Penguin Kicker.
If you stalled the boat waiting for a Hoover turtle, you stalled for a rumor. Catch the animal when the later shore allows it, keep Just Keep Hopping, and go back to the barrel. The turtle guide is the catch. This page is the reminder that the catch is not a loot vacuum.
Penguins are not a vacuum either. On the ice fishing island they wander through the same coins you dropped. In Penguin Kicker they actively steal. Throwing them is a demo toy that becomes useful when a bird is standing on a crystal. It is not a gem farming route, and it does not feed the boat. Wood and logs still do that, as the walkthrough says.
Pick valuables before they scatter
Timing beats upgrades here. Gems and coins are easiest in the first second after they spawn: on the catch, on the chest, or at the barrel’s feet after E. Every extra second is distance. Distance is the commute smilies2019 hated.
Practical habits that do not require a hidden table:
- After a loud catch on ice, take one step through the coin/gem pile before you recast. Then recast.
- After E, pick the bin spray, then walk back to water. Do not tour the whole floe.
- In Penguin Kicker, stand on the chest as it opens. The diamond is the object a penguin will steal if you admire it from an iceberg.
- If a magnet or recovery pulse is inbound, keep fishing until it lands, then take the clustered pile. Do not chase the pre-pulse scatter and the post-pulse scatter as two jobs.
- If the backpack is full, sell first. Gems on the ice do not help a fox who cannot catch.
Late islands add gold piles and crystals as layout. Some of that is art. Some of it is loot. Walk through the pile on your way to the barrel. Do not build a sightseeing route. The HUD that reads $99.24B on 2X docks got there from stacked fishing, not from a perfect gem vacuum.
What to stop expecting
Do not expect a published gem price. Do not expect the turtle to gather. Do not expect recovery to delete the chase. Do not expect Penguin Kicker diamonds to replace barrel dumps. Do not expect this short 27 August 2026 game to grow a second inventory for jewels.
Do expect to jog a little after a loud sell. Do expect ice to be messier than the tropical pond because coins, gems, penguins, and a turtle all share the snow. Do expect the fun of the catch to outrun the fun of the pickup, which is why a thumbs-down review can still say the fishing was okay.
If the chase is ruining the session, shrink the chase: sell, grab the feet-cluster, recast. Spend on backpack and rods so each E is worth the spray. Leave the rest on the ice. The two-hour ramp is the whole meal. Chasing every gem is how you make that meal feel longer without making it richer.
Back to the water
Logs still gate the boat. Fish still fill the pack. E still sells. Penguin Kicker still interrupts some crossings with a chest. Gems are the glitter around those verbs. Pick the glitter that is already under the fox. Ignore the glitter that wants a tour. Then get the next school in the dashed circle and just keep fishing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers on islands, upgrades, the turtle, and launch week.
Do gems have a published sell price?
No. This wiki will not invent one. Watch the HUD after you pick a cluster and keep spending on backpack and rods. Value lives in the dump, not in a table. The spend order is on how to make money fast.
I bought gem recovery. Why am I still chasing?
Because gems still enter the selling bin and then spread out. smilies2019 reported that with the upgrade owned. Recovery pulls some of the spray. It is not a vacuum. Pick the cluster at the barrel, then recast. Magnets on the upgrade tier list work the same way: shorter walk, not a deleted walk.
Will the turtle pick up gems?
No. The pet hops. Coin-pickup talk is still speculative. Catch it for the companion, not as a Hoover. See how to catch the turtle.
Should I chase every red gem on ice?
No. Grab the pile at your feet after a catch or a sell. Do not tour icebergs for one gem while bobbers sit idle. The real money is still catch, backpack, barrel.
Is the Penguin Kicker diamond the same as island gems?
Same glitter, different timing. Kicker is a between-island chest with penguins that steal. Island gems scatter after the sell bin. Play Penguin Kicker for the chest. Do not skip it if you want those coins. Do not treat either as the cash loop.
Are gold piles on later docks gems I have to farm?
Some crystals and gold piles are layout. Walk through them on the way to the barrel. Do not stall the walkthrough to vacuum scenery.
