Just Keep Fishing Release Timeline
Itch prototype, June Steam demo, then the 27 Aug 2026 OUT NOW launch with 27 achievements.
Just Keep Fishing did not appear fully formed on Steam. It went itch prototype → Steam demo on 10 Jun 2026 → full launch on 27 Aug 2026, announced with the studio post Just Keep Fishing is OUT NOW! This hub is the timeline for those beats, plus the 27 Steam achievements and the introductory 30% off that runs through 10 Sep 2026. If you want how to play, leave this hub and use the Guides Hub. If you want spend order, use the Tools Hub. Stay here when you need dates, what the demo taught, and what the paid build added.
Set Sail Games developed it. Aarimous and Thornity published it. Steam app 4601160 is the full game. Steam app 4601640 is the demo. Both are the same short incremental loop: cast, backpack, barrel, shop. The difference is how far the islands go.
Timeline
| Date | Beat | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| Before June 2026 | Itch prototype | Public prototype used to test the backpack-and-barrel loop before a Steam demo |
| 10 Jun 2026 | Steam demo (app 4601640) | First Steam-sized slice; 96% of 29 demo reviews |
| 27 Aug 2026 | Full launch (app 4601160) | OUT NOW post; more islands, minigames, deeper tree, 27 achievements |
| Through 10 Sep 2026 | Introductory 30% off | Launch-week store discount on the full game |
Read the full launch notes for what 27 Aug actually shipped. Read the demo notes for what the June slice taught, and why that slice is now a try-before-buy instead of the whole route. After launch, post-launch notes track Discord hotfixes, the review snapshot, and the fact that Steam news still has no numbered 1.0.x post.
Itch prototype
Before Steam, Thomas Stewart and Set Sail put a prototype on itch so people could throw a bobber, fill a tiny backpack, and complain about walking to the barrel. That prototype is how the backpack survived into the Steam builds: the commute is the joke and the tension. The itch build was not the full island set. It was a proof that GO FISH! felt good. When the Steam page went live, that prototype became the argument for a proper demo.
This wiki does not treat itch as a live download you should hunt for in 2026. The Steam demo replaced it as the public slice. Mentioning itch here is only to explain why the June demo already had a backpack, a barrel, and a turtle tease instead of a blank tutorial pond.
Steam demo — 10 Jun 2026
The Steam demo shipped 10 Jun 2026. Reviews landed at 96% of 29 on the demo page. It taught the real loop: backpack ranks, extra rods, logs and a boat, a turtle you could see and not quite land, ice water with penguins, and an end-of-demo fork that asked you to keep fishing or reset. That is enough to know whether the silly physics and the shop curve agree with your brain. It is not enough to call yourself finished with lava, ice, and interstellar islands.
After 27 Aug 2026 the demo still exists as a free install. It is no longer the only way to see the game. Use it if you have not paid. Do not use it as a walkthrough of the full tree. Details live on the demo page.
Full launch — 27 Aug 2026, OUT NOW
Steam news on Thursday 27 Aug 2026 used the line Just Keep Fishing is OUT NOW! The body was short and honest: after a lot of work and an unreasonable amount of time thinking about fish, the game launched. The full build adds more islands, including lava, ice, and interstellar water; minigames; and a deeper upgrade tree than the June slice. Steam opened in Positive. Family Sharing is on. There are 27 Steam achievements. Interface languages include English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), and Spanish (Latin America).
The store still calls it a short incremental. That is not a hedge. If you want a hundred-hour fishing career, read the review before you buy. If you want a night of escalating bobbers, the 27 Aug build is the product. Launch notes, demo comparison, and the intro sale sit on the launch page.
27 achievements and the intro sale
Twenty-seven achievements is a small list on purpose. They track the short loop: hop, pocket change, sixth sense, third time’s the charm, and the rest of the set on Steam. Use the achievements guide when you want the unlock order. This hub only records that the full game shipped with 27, and that the demo was never the achievement list.
The introductory offer is 30% off through 10 Sep 2026. After that date, check the Steam store for whatever the live price is. This wiki will not pretend the 30% lasts forever.
Where to go from here
- New to the dock: getting started after you install the full game or the demo.
- Want the island route: walkthrough.
- Want spend order on launch day: upgrade planner.
- Want whether the short-ness is a problem: review.
- Want official channels: Links Hub.
The story so far is short on purpose: itch prototype, June demo, August launch. If a later named patch lands, it will sit under this hub. Until then, the OUT NOW post plus post-launch notes is the live version of the game.
