Official platforms (not a Deck badge)

Steam lists Windows 10 or later and macOS Ventura or later for the full game. That pair is what you buy against. platforms.linux is false in the API. Treat Linux as unofficial even though an Arch Linux Steam review exists. One person booting a game on Arch is a player report, not a studio platform.

Steam Deck is not in that official pair. Valve’s compatibility line was still learning at launch. This wiki will not stamp Verified. It will not stamp Playable. It will not invent a third badge. If your Deck library later shows a badge, believe Steam, not this sentence.

What we can say from players:

A Deck is not a GTX 950 desktop. It is also not a 4 GB Windows 10 tower. These rows exist so you know the game is light. If the Windows build of a 500 MB top-down incremental runs on a 2016 card, the handheld question is usually “does the build start and do the binds work,” not “do I need a new GPU.” There is no ultra preset to chase. The Tools Hub is for spend order and this spec checklist, not for overlay frame times.

Linux requirements show up in API dumps (Linux/X11, RAM, OpenGL-style lines on demo-shaped blocks). They do not make Linux official. The Arch review is the same category as the Deck reports: a person played. If your SteamOS, Arch, or other stack boots app 4601160, keep the save. How to play on Deck without a fake layout

This wiki will not invent a Steam Input template, a gyro profile, or a trackpad click map. Controls names the PC verbs: WASD moves, mouse aims and clicks the red !, E sells and interacts, Space toggles the GO FISH! skill tree. Jump exists; confirm that bind in-game. If a prompt on your build disagrees with this page, trust the prompt.

On Deck:

1. Install Just Keep Fishing on Steam as app 4601160. The demo is 4601640 if you still want a free taste.
2. Start a session on the first tropical island, not in a nested community layout you found on a random list.
3. Open the in-game prompt overlay and match whatever the build offers to WASD, click, E, and Space.
4. Cast once. Sell once at the barrel with E. Open the skill tree with Space and leave it with GO FISH!. If those four verbs work, you can play the game.
5. Walk to a yellow crate if one is down and press E. Deliveries still want the same interact as the barrel.

Do not assume a community layout is official. Do not assume touch is required. Do not assume the unlimited skill-tree zoom wants a mouse wheel you do not have — if you lose the nodes, find the zoom control your layout actually bound, or use the on-screen prompt. A missed interact on a handheld is usually range, not a missing Deck-only key.

The fox, the backpack, the boat, and the later islands are the same as on a desk. Use Getting Started for the first hour and the Island Walkthrough once logs unlock the boat. Handheld does not add a second campaign.

What this page will not claim

It will not claim a Verified badge. It will not claim a Playable badge. Steam was still learning that line at launch. Badges change on Valve’s side. This page records player time (187 minutes on Deck in one review), a fast Discord fix, official Windows and macOS minimums, and a false Linux platform flag.

It will not claim the full game is a Linux port because an Arch review exists. It will not claim macOS Ventura is optional. It will not claim 4 GB RAM is a recommended gaming-laptop spec — it is the published minimum. It will not invent Proton version numbers, community layout IDs, or a gyro flick that never appears on screen.

It will not turn handheld play into a different game. You still fish, bag, barrel, buy. Yellow deliveries still want E. The turtle is still later. The 27 Steam achievements still live on the full app. If the Deck build starts, you are playing Just Keep Fishing, not a side version.

A short Deck session checklist

1. Confirm 500 MB free on the card.

3. Verify binds in-game against Controls.
4. Cast, sell, open the tree, leave the tree.
